Authorship of ‘The Climate Shock’
This book, authored by Geert Noels, Kristof Eggermont, and Yanaika Denoyelle, quantifies 20 climate solutions that enable significant reductions in Belgian CO2 emissions by 2030. It is the result of extensive consultations with Belgian captains of industry, civic organizations, and policy officials.
Written from an economic perspective, the book introduces the concept of “Regrowth,” demonstrating how economic growth can act as a catalyst for climate action. Each solution is presented on a human scale, showing that investing in climate-friendly technologies can drive wealth creation rather than hinder it.
To quantify the greenhouse gas reduction potential of each solution, we developed models that account for different scenarios and ambition levels across the five sectors and 20 solutions discussed. Expert panels were consulted multiple times throughout, providing Ortelius with valuable insights into how industry plans to organize itself for Belgium’s energy transition.
