Socio-economic impact studies
Ortelius conducts socio-economic impact studies, providing in-depth research on the socio-economic effects of large-scale infrastructure projects on society and the economy. This includes:
- Estimating the direct, indirect, and induced effects via input-output analysis
- Evaluating economic spillover effects, which includes the identification and evaluation of the effects of economic activities on other sectors.
- Evaluating broader societal and strategic effects in the long term.
Our analyses provide valuable insights and recommendations to support policymakers, businesses, and other stakeholders in making strategic decisions and promoting sustainable development. The Einsteintelescope is an important reference project in this context.
Financing advice
Ortelius provides financial advice to companies, covering various aspects such as the macroeconomic environment, advice on financing structures, and Project Finance.
- Macroeconomic environment: Ortelius has expertise in macroeconomics, which proves valuable in identifying economic trends, risks, and opportunities. Understanding key macroeconomic indicators such as economic growth, inflation, interest rates, etc., naturally influences a company’s financing structure.
- Advice on financing structure: A financial-economic outlook can be used to provide guidance on how companies should finance themselves (long-term loans, commercial paper, variable rate vs. fixed rate, …)
- Project Finance: Ortelius has developed an in-house Project Finance Model capable of analyzing complex infrastructure projects.
Vision, strategy and foresight
Vision papers: Vision papers are documents outlining the vision and strategy of an organization on a specific topic. They can be used to define goals, priorities, and action plans to achieve certain long-term ambitions. Vision papers are often used in policy-making, strategic planning and decision-making.
Strategic studies: These studies aim to identify long-term trends, analyze competitive (dis)advantages, evaluate economic risks and opportunities, and develop strategic roadmaps to achieve long-term objectives.
Foresight analyses: Foresight studies are methods used to identify and analyze possible future developments. These studies allow organizations to gain insight into potential trends, opportunities, and threats that may arise in the future. The results are used to prepare for various future scenarios and develop a strategic planning. The emphasis is on scenario planning rather than attempting to predict the future.
Strategic company advice
Ortelius provides strategic advice to companies on navigating the macroeconomic environment, financial matters, and strategic aspects within climate and energy. Specifically, this involves:
- Identifying long-term trends
- Identifying new growth opportunities
- Mapping out risks
- Developing strategic roadmaps
- Conducting in-depth studies on climate and energy.
The ultimate goal of strategic business advice is to assist companies in defining and achieving their long-term goals while maintaining a competitive advantage in their industry.
Corporate ecosystem analyis
Through the software tool “Econodata”, Ortelius utilizes an in-house developed tool that daily updates the financial data of all Belgian companies with reporting obligations. This enables the mapping of business ecosystems and tracking of specific parameters at the sector level (e.g., total assets, total revenues, average profit margins, etc.).
This capability is relevant for companies to monitor the sector in which they operate, as well as for sector federations to monitor the performance of their corporate clusters. For investors, it can be useful to identify new targets based on filtering by sector, revenue level, gross margins, and other criteria.
