The sustainable vision for Smart Delta Resources for 2030 and 2050
Smart Delta Resources (SDR) is a cluster of energy- and resource-intensive companies located in the Flemish-Dutch Scheldt Delta region, encompassing Ghent, Vlissingen, and Terneuzen. Our recent study focused on how this industrial ecosystem can transition toward climate neutrality and circularity by 2050.
Our team developed a new framework aimed at fully valorizing the synergies between different industrial players within SDR. This framework enables economic and sustainable win-wins by harnessing inter-industry synergies—for example, by repurposing CO₂ and heat from the steel sector for direct use in the surrounding horticultural sector.
In addition, we worked on shaping a compelling narrative to effectively communicate these goals and findings to the cluster partners, ensuring alignment and engagement across the ecosystem.
